About HICK Tech

HICK Tech is a boutique consulting agency in rural Canada. With cowboy boots. Red cowboy boots.

Emma Jane HogbinLed by internationally renowned open source software advocate and technical author, Emma Jane Hogbin, HICK Tech focuses on transparent business practices and open source tools that make technology accessible. Her thought-provoking talks and articles on The 100-Mile Client Roster and women in technology are helping to transform the way we do business. She is a frequent speaker at open source conferences in Canada, US and Europe and is an active volunteer with several open source projects.

Through craft Emma encourages non-traditional participation in technology. She has even open sourced one of her knitting patterns so that you can make your very own Drupal Socks (as featured in CRAFTzine).

HICK Tech was originally conceived in 2006 in a small town in rural Canada and started its life as a technology conference. It was featured in Linux Pro Magazine—you can read the article online. More information about the 2007 and 2008 conferences is available in the archives.

Emma Jane combines the perfect amount of predictability and spontaneity. As an audience member at both Ontario Linux Fest and Ubuntu Open Week, I can honestly attest that her technique has not only been effective in increasing my knowledge about Bazaar, it has sparked my excitement about developments in technology and has inspired me to engage in new projects. She presents herself as very approachable and always answers questions thoroughly, making sure that the user feels comfortable and at ease. If you're looking for a captivating, knowledgeable, and passionate presenter-Emma Jane will undoubtedly meet your needs.
